Solar Panels

DES Solar Panels, through it's holding company DES Electrical Ltd are members of the NICEIC and offer a full Inspection & Testing service which has insurance backed warranties on all Part P notifiable work.

A 'typical' home uses approximately 2 kwh in a normal daytime period and so 10ff panels would expect to offset around 60% of the total energy demand.

Allowing for daylight, sunshine and location it is possible to expect 2000 -2500 kwh of energy.

Using this free energy over energy that you have to pay for of course saves you money. Solar energy although now over a hundred years old, is becoming one of the fastest growing industries and of absolute importance in the battle against climate change.

Solar energy can significantly lower your monthly electricity bills... and don’t forget that installing a solar panel energy system, can significantly add value to your home too.

Solar pv panels for home use, when properly fitted by qualified DES Solar Panel installers, are usually installed onto building roofs or ground-based purpose-built racks, they can also be arranged into strings on property roofs or in free standing groups or ‘arrays’. Installing PV systems angled between 20 and 30 degrees, pointing as near south as is practical, will ensure their yield is as high as possible.

Whilst the panels are an important component of those systems, but they are by no means the only component; the inverter unit, which takes the DC Electricity, generated by the panels and converts it in to usable AC (alternating current), is perhaps the most vital component of all.

We use the very best combination of inverter unit and panels so as to maximise the power output that your roof can produce.

What Are Solar Panels

Our Solar electricity system uses Solar Photovoltaic (PV) Panels which convert daylight into electricity that you can use in your own home.
The panels are fitted to the roof of your property as part of our professional installtion service.

By generating your own renewable energy, you should need to buy less electricity, save money on your energy bills and reduce your ompact on the environment, and thanks to the governments "Feed-In-Tariff" scheme, you’ll you will be paid for all the electricity you generate.

What Are Solar Panels

  • You will receive expert, impartial advice from our dedicated team, as well as a FREE energy Survey to check if your home is suitable.
  • DES Solar Panels will design a system that is personalised to suite your home to help you generate as much electricity and income as possible
  • If you sell your home, you will recieve a FREE ´Solar Performance Certificate´ to help you get the maximum return on your investment
Is your home eligible

Solar panels are generally considered ‘permitted development’ in England and Wales as long as they are not installed above the ridge line of your property. If you live in a listed building or in a conservation area then restrictions will apply. Up-to-date advice is available on the governments planning portal.

To claim the top rate of feed-in tariff from 1 April 2012 all buildings to which solar PV panels are mounted or wired must have an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) of at least band D. As the average house in England and Wales doesn't quite make it into band D, this means that many people will have to improve the energy efficiency of their house or office to qualify for the tariff. However, it is worth remembering that the installation of solar PV counts towards your overall rating so can often mean band D is achieved. If you do not currently have an EPC for your property or are unsure wether your existing EPC will qualify for band D once the works have been carried out then please do not hesitate to contact us.

How do photovoltaic systems (PV) cells work?

Solar pv - photovoltaic cells are panels you can attach to the roof or walls of your property. Each cell is made from one or two layers of semiconducting material, usually silicon. When light shines on the cell it creates an electric field across the layers. The stronger the sunshine, the more electricity is produced.

Solar pv cells come in a variety of shapes and colours. The most cost effective panels are rectangular and a 250 - 270watt panel will have a dimension of around 1.6m by 1m. The panels weigh approximately 20 kilogrammes each. Panels can be integrated into the roof, fastened on top or even used as decorative panels (clear glass is used)

It is also possible to obtain roof tiles which incorporate solar pv cells, but these are the most expensive solution; proper consultation with experienced solar pv installers will however provide you with the best solution for your particular requirement.

The strength of a solar pv cell is measured in kilowatt peak (kWp) - that's the amount of energy the cell generates in full sunlight.

Solar pv panels for home use are usually effective even after 25 years. For instance, our solar panels are warranted to produce at least 80 percent of their full-rated power after twenty-five years. Solar Panels require little maintenance and upkeep costs are generally low, DES Solar Panel installers can also carry out regular maintenance checks on an annual basis, ensuring you get the best performamnce form your installation every year..
